Honey Garlic Salmon

One of my all time favorite dinners is this honey garlic salmon recipe. Normally, a good piece of salmon doesn’t need much aside from a couple of spices and a good quality cooking oil. But, if you’re looking to change up the flavor game, this honey garlic salmon sauce is definitely a must try.

This recipe is great for nights where you want a quick, 30-minute dinner on the table. I love to serve it over rice with stir-fried veggies, or a sesame cucumber salad.

This sauce is so easy to throw together and is made with just a few simple pantry ingredients. It’s easily modifiable and has less sugar than store bought sauces.

What you’ll need to make honey garlic salmon:

  • 3-4 salmon fillets, about 4-6 oz each. I love thicker cuts of salmon that stay flakey and tender when cooked
  • Coconut aminos is one of my go-to condiments in place of soy sauce. It’s made of coconut sap and sea salt, and can be used as a naturally gluten-free soy sauce alternative, with way less sodium and a natural sweetness. I love it for this recipe because it requires less added sugar from the honey.
  • Tapioca flour- extracted from the roots of the cassava plant, I use this as a thickener for the sauce. You’ll see me use it a lot in my recipes, but it’s easily replaceable with arrowroot flour, rice flour or regular flour!
  • Honey
  • Garlic & ginger
  • Sesame seeds
  • Scallions
  • Red chili flakes- this ones optional, but I love to add some heat to my meals
  1. Start by seasoning the salmon lightly with salt, pepper and smoked paprika. Sear both sides of the salmon in oil for 2-3 minutes per side
  2. Once the salmon is browned, drain any excess oil from the pan using a paper towel.
  3. Pour the sauce ingredients into the pan and let the sauce cook on a low flame until it thickens.
  4. Add a few thinly sliced lemon slices into the sauce and place the salmon back into the pan. Finish cooking the fish for another 5-6 minutes on a low flame.
  5. Garnish with extra scallions and sesame seeds

The sauce is so delicious, it can even be used as a marinade for tofu, chicken or your favorite protein. Serve the salmon over rice with your favorite veggies for a hearty weeknight dinner.

This honey garlic salmon has truly become one of our weeknight staples. You guys are going to love it!

Ingredients

  • 3 -4 salmon fillets, about 4-6 oz each
  • 1 tbsp olive oil, or cooking oil of choice
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper
  • 3-4 thin lemon slices

Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 1/3 cup coconut aminos or 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 clove garlics, crushed
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes
  • 2 tbsp water mixed with 1 tsp tapioca flour or cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 scallions chopped
  • Pinch salt, if using coconut aminos

Serve with:

  • Brown or white rice
  • Stir fry veggies

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet on medium heat and add in the olive oil
  2. Pat the salmon dry and season with the paprika and a pinch of salt & pepper
  3. Place the salmon skin side down and cook for about 2 minutes. Flip the salmon fillets over and sear for another 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the salmon from the pan and drain any excess oil using a paper towel.
  4. While that cooks, whisk together all sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Once you remove the salmon from the pan and wipe away the excess oil, pour the sauce into the pan and lower the heat to a medium/low.
  5. Once the sauce begins to thicken, place the salmon back into the pan with 3-4 lemon slices. Spoon the sauce over each fish fillet and finish cooking for another 5-6 minutes.
  6. Top it off with extra chopped scallions and sesame seeds.

Grilled honey mustard chicken sandwich Simple sa Grilled honey mustard chicken sandwich

Simple sandwiches are a go-to of mine during busy weeks, and this grilled honey mustard chicken sandwich is the perfect way to pack in carbs, fiber and protein for a nourishing lunch.

I used @kensdressing creamy Honey Mustard Dressing for the marinade, which is sweet, tangy, and incredibly versatile— it’s a pantry staple and a delicious way to elevate your proteins as we transition into fall!

Recipe:
Sesame baguette or bread of choice
2 chicken breast
¼ cup Ken’s Honey Mustard dressing
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 zucchini, cut into coins
Mixed greens
Olive oil
Salt & pepper

1. Add the sliced bell pepper and zucchini to a sheet pan and drizzle with olive oil and a pinch of salt. Set the vegetables under the broiler until they’re charred, for about 5-6 minutes- keeping a close eye
2. Heat a grill pan with 2 tbsp of olive oil on medium heat
3. Marinate the chicken breast with the honey mustard dressing, a drizzle of olive oil and salt & pepper. Toss to combine
4. Grill the chicken for about 15 minutes total, flipping every couple of minutes until fully cooked through to 165 F
5. Assemble your sandwich by toasting your bread and adding the mixed greens, grilled chicken, extra honey mustard dressing and the roasted vegetables
